From Newsday 6-08-13 — Carl LoBue and Christopher Gobler Weigh in On Algal Blooms This Spring and How the Breach Is (Thus Far) Sparing The Great South Bay From Brown Tide

At least some of you will not be able to read this, not being registered at Newsday — the gist is, however, that we are once again facing large scale algal blooms this year, with worse perhaps to come.    Interestingly though, while so many bays are suffering, The Great South Bay, because it is being flushed by the breach / New Inlet, has been thus far spared.  It is in fact experiencing a revitalization, while other nearby waters are dying.
