Who We Are

We are a Non-Profit dedicated to revitalizing The Great South Bay. We are South Shore LI residents, past and present, oystermen, fishermen, boaters, surfers, sailors, paddleboarders, environmental advocates, and marine scientists. We are The South Shore. We grew up on The Great South Bay. We remember what it was once like. We have been learning why the bay is sick, and what we can do to heal it.

We are over 12,000 strong in our Facebook Group, and are in every community from Lindenhurst to Mastic. Together we can save this bay.  With The Creek Defender Program, South Shore communities can stop pollution before it reaches the bay, and improve habitat. With The I Love Long Island Campaign, every South Shore resident can literally put a stake in the ground and make a stand for the bay by choosing bay friendly yards where no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used, and native plantings encouraged.

As part of our Habitat Restoration Program, we advocate the speedy implementation of 21st Century wastewater infrastructure so that we can bring back what would be today a $1 billion industry in the form of oyster farms. We also promote the planting of native “swamp forests” along all 41 creeks flowing into the bay so that the plants can filter the water before it reaches our creeks and our bay. Improve water quality enough that the brown tide doesn’t ravage the bay each year, and we can bring this bay back.
