Presiding Office of the Legislature Kevin McCaffrey got in the weeds with us at our recent clean up along Santapogue Creek in West Babylon. This clean up was hosted in collaboration with the Babylon Rotary Club led by President Kristen Morse with support from former President Megan Noble. Creek Defenders Tom Kain, James Bertsch and Ed Ragan were on hand to lead the charge. The group picked up many bags of trash that would’ve otherwise ended up in the Great South Bay.

The Santapogue creek runs behind Aldi in West Babylon – you’ve probably crossed over it many times as it runs under Montauk Highway. It starts up near Sunrise Highway and snakes its way down to flow out into the Bay. It’s a hotspot for trash from the nearby fast food joints.

As we know at Save the Great South Bay, the land is sick….the Bay is but a symptom.  That’s why each town’s Creek Defender cleans our creeks and why each town has a Creek Defender.

Thank you Legislator McCaffrey for your longtime support of our efforts to improve water quality in our beloved Bay.  And thank you to all the Babylon Rotarians and other volunteers who came out on this brisk November day to Start Where You Stand.
