End Poison Rain – Stop Methoprene

December 12, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Suffolk County Legislature, Public Works Committee is inviting commentary on the proposed 2017 mosquito control plan. At issue is the continuation of the aerial assault of 20,000+ acres of wetlands with the toxic pesticide, methoprene.

The State of Connecticut banned Methoprene applications in coastal areas in 2013 because of its lethal effect on crustaceans. Rhode Island and NYC have similar restrictions in place for the same reasons.

Of particular note, in 2007 several members of Suffolk’s own Council on Environmental Quality rejected methoprene use, but their objections were ignored by the Legislature.

Given the stress on our bays from pollution, the body of science and the actions of other governing bodies, it’s unconscionable that Suffolk County continues to poison wetlands and kill aquatic life in the war on mosquitos. A folly to say the least.

Please join us at the meeting and register objections to methoprene and ask for its ommision from the 2017 work plan.
