Do Good, Drink Well.

It’s back & more refreshing than ever. It’s Blue Point Brewery’s remarkable (and limited edition) label, Drink The Bay Clean, created to support Save The Great South Bay in its mission.  This year’s rendition, as a delicious Helles Lager, and the establishments that carry it, help fund The Creek Defender Program, which focuses on local stewardship of the 50 creeks that flow into The Great South Bay, the Bay Friendly Yards Program, which promotes eco-friendly, native yardscaping sans pesticides or chemical lawn fertilizers, the newly launched Great South Bay Oyster Project, an effort to revitalize the bay through oyster restoration, as well as our advocacy for 21st Century wastewater infrastructure across Long Island for a sustainable future.

In sum, the Blue Point Brewing Company and Clare Rose, the region’s largest beer distributor, have made a beer for a cause — to save the Great South Bay.

Refreshingly crisp with a lightly toasted malt aroma and low German hop bitterness, Drink the Bay Clean is passion project for Mark Burford, a lifetime South Shore resident, Brewmaster Emeritus, founder of The Blue Point Brewing Company, and Sayville Class of ’80 graduate. We remember the Bay back then & want it back.

Blue Point Brewery draws its water from the glacial aquifer that lies below Long Island and wants that aquifer protected.  The oyster farmers who fight to grow their harvests of world-famous Blue Point oysters each year want bay friendly yards.  We on the South Shore need to help them, and in the process revitalize the bay and support our local economy.

Being in the uncharted waters of COVID-19 and with social distancing guidelines in place, the launch of this label looks a little different this year. You can enjoy this refreshing tribute to the Bay any day of the week at the brewery’s outdoor picnic area (bucket of six for the price of five!) or order a case (or ten) to enjoy with friends with complimentary home delivery. If you know of a local restaurant or retail shop that would like to carry this limited edition label, please contact us with the establishment’s name and the person the brewery should connect with.

With summer events cancelled due to COVID-19, we are celebrating this year’s label, by hosting the Summer of Fun Scavenger Hunt from Friday, July 24 thru Sunday, July 26th. Players earn points by completing missions, such as picking up a bag of trash or taking a selfie at your favorite spot on the Bay, to win a treasure chest (ok it’s really a nice cooler – thanks Blue Point!) full of goodies including fresh Blue Point oysters, gift cards to South Shore Paddle Boards, The View, Post Office Cafe, Maxwell’s, Southside Bar & Restaurant, and Cornucopia Health Foods, a pair of CRESLI’s unlimited seal walk passes, Save The Great South Bay merch & much more! Game starts at 9:00 am on Friday, July 24 and ends on Sunday, July 26th at 5:00 PM. Learn more and register your team at

Together, we can protect and preserve our creeks, rivers and the Great South Bay, and with it the economies of South Shore towns (and have buckets of fun doing it).

To the Bay!
