After 8 years of persistent effort, The Blue Way — an extensive network of kayaking routes all along The South Shore and around the various islands in Nassau County, is about to launch. How do we help to make this eco- amenity a success for kayakers and the local environment? How could the kayaking paths be extended eastward into Suffolk? How could kayakers participate in local environmental stewardship? How do we increase the number of locations from which kayakers could launch?

Not to be overlooked in this most worthy project is the fact that a similar initiative for Suffolk, one involving both sea and land trails, and including historic locations has been in the planning as well.

Joe Kayal is the author and driving force behind this initiative. Here is a link to a document offering an overview of what this would look like: http://www.lisser.us/bayway/BwySIMPApril09LowRez.pdf
