Grassroots Environmental Education 52 Main Street, Port Washington, United StatesFor years in the late 80's / early 90's, developers and environmentalists fought over the fate of The Pine Barrens, a 50,000 acre forest of scrub pine in the eastern half of Suffolk County. In the end, the preservationists prevailed, securing this land for future generations, and saving a unique and diverse habitat from destruction. Our water supply was at the same time protected.
