Long Island’s identity is deeply connected to the water—and a new initiative is helping protect it.

The New York Islanders have launched Protect Our Shores, a sustainability platform dedicated to restoring local waterways, shorelines, and marine ecosystems across Metro New York. We’re proud that Save the Great South Bay is one of the nonprofit partners selected to advance this important work, alongside the Billion Oyster Project and the New York Marine Rescue Center.

Protect Our Shores focuses on three core actions:

  • Fundraising: A portion of proceeds from Islanders Fisherman merchandise will support partner nonprofits and their restoration efforts.

  • Volunteering: Islanders staff will contribute hands-on volunteer hours with local organizations.

  • Awareness: Through storytelling and an annual Protect Our Shores Theme Night starting in the 2026–27 season, the initiative will spotlight the importance of shoreline and waterway restoration.

Supported by Rheem Pro Partners associated with MCN Distributors, this partnership shows how community leadership, corporate responsibility, and environmental stewardship can work together to protect the waters that define Long Island.

Healthy bays start with local action. We’re grateful to the Islanders and Rheem for investing in solutions that restore our waterways—because when we start where we stand, real change is possible.
