Prop 2 would restore clean, healthy water by drastically reducing nitrogen pollution.
2024 Fact Sheet – Suffolk County Water Quality Restoration Act
Why Do We Support Prop 2?
We all depend on clean water. For more than a decade, we’ve read about the harmful effects of excess nitrogen pollution in our water. Scientific research shows that nitrogen from sewage is suffocating our bays and harbors, contaminating our drinking water, and causing fishkills and harmful algae blooms. Restoring clean, healthy water requires drastically reducing nitrogen pollution from its main source: outdated wastewater systems.
After years of hard work by Save the Great South Bay, public officials, and a multitude of partners, Suffolk County voters now have the opportunity to restore clean water by voting yes on Proposition 2 on your general election ballot. Prop 2 would restore clean water to Suffolk County by making critical infrastructure updates not only possible but affordable to residents and businesses.
Save the Great South Bay urges you to VOTE YES on Proposition 2 on or before November 5.

What Would Prop 2 Do?
Prop 2 would restore clean water to Suffolk County by modernizing wastewater infrastructure; it would expand sewers and provide tax-free grants to homeowners to replace polluting septic systems with clean water technology.
If approved by voters, Prop 2 would create a dedicated fund, financed by an 1/8 penny increase to the county sales tax. The funding could only be used to improve water quality in Suffolk County. This local fund would unlock federal and state clean water funding to help with projects right here in Suffolk County.
These clean water projects will create thousands of good jobs, revitalize business districts, increase property values, and restore our local bays and harbors. Prop 2 will safeguard our way of life, improve public health, and protect the waters we depend on.
